She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21 NASB)
A few days ago I was talking about Jesus’ Job description as Savior and I spent some time talking about the word “sōzō.” Maybe 6 or 7 years ago, I was doing some study on this word “sōzō,” and began to wonder if there was an Old Testament equivalent.
So I pulled up the word salvation in bible software I was using at them time, and began to check out verses like these:
Exodus 14:13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.

Isaiah 52:7 How lovely on the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who announces peace And brings good news of happiness, Who announces salvation, And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
These are just 4 Examples of this Hebrew word – it shows up 77 times throughout the Hebrew Scriptures.
