Picky and Still Sick

Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. (Luke 5:17 NKJV)

This is the beginning of the story where 4 men bring their friend to Jesus and drop him through the roof because the house was so crowded.

Do you know this story?

Have you ever noticed that little tag on the first verse when Luke is narrating?

Not only was Jesus “In the House” but He was carrying.

He had not come empty handed – He came prepared.

When Jesus came teaching, He was always ready to bring salvation to body, soul and spirit. He did not come simply to impart information. [Tweet This]

But this crowd was peppered with those who would find fault, and were there to pick at His words.

When you sit under the teaching of the Master, are you picking at the one bringing the Word or are you listening for the voice of the Master?

Let me tell you what I do. In order to feel good about myself, I will listen to another teacher/preacher and think, “I would have said that differently,” or “Why didn’t he bring such and such out of that passage – it is the obvious message.” I will compare what I am hearing to my favorite international speaker, or some sermon I heard 20 years ago.

All the while the Lord’s has sent His healing power to accompany His Word as it goes forth, and I miss the healing I need for something I don’t even know is broken.

Some guy comes in through the roof – disrupting everything – and get’s what I could have had all the time. It was there for me, but I was too busy judging the situation to receive.

Let’s sit before His Word with open hearts and see if we can tap into the healing that comes with it every time. [Click to Tweet]

Amen - convicted... That was a bulls eye straight to my heart Ben. How many times have I been guilty of the same thing? Lord forgive me for nit-picking instead of listening for Your voice and receiving Your healing.

Thanks for posting this. I needed it.

    Love in Christ,

Real is where i try to live. Every once in a while i get writing and i find some religious junk on my screen, and i have to scrap it and start over. (twice today - ah well) and sometimes it slips through.

I am so thankful for folks like you who keep me encouraged to keep it "real."

Happy new year Deb - my prayer for you is that you and Aubry would find More and New around every corner this year.
