Broken Nets and Sinking Boats

Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch. (Luke 5:4 NASB)

These seasoned fishermen had been fishing all night long. When they got back to shore they found this man teaching a bunch of people.

While they should be cleaning their nets, Jesus asks if He can use their boat as a platform.

There is no record of a rental agreement, but Jesus intends to make it worth their while.

After Jesus is done teaching for the time being, He asks Peter to head out so they can catch some fish.

Peter, I am sure was thinking – “Jesus, you are an amazing teacher, but leave the fishing to the pros.” We do know that Jesus’ teaching carried such authority that everyone was amazed, so I supposed Peter was willing to appease Him, but Peter clearly had low expectations.

The fish surround the boat to such an extent that they had to signal their partners to come and help bring in the harvest. Nets were breaking, ships were sinking. It was all good!

Harvest makes a mess, and creates tons of work and clean up.

Hmmm – I wonder if these are the works that we were created for. [Tweet This] You know, the ones that God prepared for us in advance.

BenDirector3CroppedSound good to me!

Let’s go fishin’

One of my favorite preachers - Bill Johnson - has a sermon called something like "there's no such thing as poop-less cows" - makes me laugh every time i hear the title, but it is based on Proverbs 14:4 - Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.

As I was reading this story, that is what i was thinking about that idea.

      God bless you Deb.
