What were you expecting?

Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! ~ Matthew 7:9-11

God is good, certainly good to His children.

Asaph said it this way:

Surely God is good to Israel,
To those who are pure in heart! ~ Psalm 73:1

And God is the giver of good gifts!

James puts it this way:

Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow. ~ James 1:17

What sort of gifts?

Well John tells us:

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16

Jesus, in Luke 11, using the same line of reasoning as noted above concludes like this:

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? ~ Luke 11:13

Another good gift can be found back in the first chapter of James:

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. ~ James 1:5

Paul tells us of a few other gifts:

For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. ~ Romans 5:17

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 6:23

...being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; ~ Romans 3:24

Paul detail 9 gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12

Let me recap.

God’s word explicitly says He gives:

  • Jesus
  • The Holy Spirit
  • Wisdom
  • Abundant Grace
  • Righteousness
  • Eternal life
  • Redemption
  • Not to mention the gifts of the Spirit - word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, effecting of miracles, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, various kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues. (taken from 1 Corinthians 12:8-10) (oops – I said I would not mention those)

So there you go – Our Father gives incredible gifts. What a great Father!

BenThanks for coming by today

See you tomorrow for more!

Ben

Yep, it's great to be me!! (said with delighted humility, as I know exactly WHO my Joy comes from)

I forgot to ask if you're anywhere near Newark--in November, Joseph Prince's USA tour will include a stop in Newark. Just keepin' you in the loop, brother!

"So, what are you thinking?" I'm thinking that I love the Ben and JC show! 🙂 And that your relationship and exuberance is an example of some of those good gifts He gives too! Thank you, Mr. Ben, for helping us look at what He gives. God certainly doesn't hold back! God bless you and yours!

LOL - the Ben & JC show - well - as I have said before many of God's gifts are wrapped in people, and JC, and you for that matter are a couple of His best gifts! Bless your Thursday.

Okay, I'm too excited to sleep now! I've got all your stuff in my sidebar! Your red letter day logo thingie, the shame eraser one, and of course my fave, The Rock Star Encourager--the first 2, when clicked, link to you here--the other one, since it was your gift to me, I just left as is, if that's okay. You know me, I'll probably make a big to-do about how all these came from you, in a post pretty soon! Ooooooh, I'm happy now--and thanking God for helping with the technical widget assistance (apparently an old dog CAN learn new tricks...eventually)!!! Thanks, Ben, for all my fun stuff! Now, I have to put the old Caddo stuff back up!!

Oh sweet - i just took a peek, and i love your new look - thanks for the links, it is an honor. It's funny how we don't think about asking God for technical help sometimes. as if He is an old guy and would not understand computers - LOL - I always pray for help when i get stuck in my IT world, and He has more than once given me seemingly crazy ideas and gotten me out of some tight spots.

Let me know how St. T does today.

Mostly, regarding computer stuff, God just sits close to me and reminds me where I put my notes--and says, "now, calm down, you can do this thing". He's the BEST! (And remarkably up to date with all things "modern"!!)

Thanks so much for your prayers re St T, will update you when I get word.
