It’s another Red Letter Day, and I am so glad you stopped by.
Do you realize that the Word of God is essential to life? Jesus even goes so far as to tell us it is more important than food.
Do you remember when Jesus was in the wilderness? 40 days of fasting end in Jesus’ face off with that old liar the devil.
And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’” – Matthew 4:2-4
We know that God spoke everything – everything into existence. The Word of God created everything seen and unseen.
By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. – Hebrews 11:3
I said last week that everything we need or want was supplied by revelation, and I was working from this verse in John 16:
All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. – John 16:15
I simply want to take it one step further today, and state that without this “disclosure,” without the voice of God in your day-to-day life you can not live the Christian life.
The Word of God, and more emphatically, the voice of the Lord (you can call it the voice of the Holy Spirit if you prefer) is essential, it is the essence of the Christian life. It is the source of all life, and without the voice of the Lord in our daily lives, we will die. [Tweet This]
Please don’t think I am saying to throw out your Bible and live by voices in your head. Without your Bible you will not know whose voice is who.
We must live constantly meditating on the written Word of God, and listening for the voice of the Lord.
Perhaps you are thinking, God said it all in the Bible, and we don’t need Him to say anything more.
Then what is Jesus talking about here in John 16?
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. – John 16:7,13-15
Today I want to join with my sister Felicia, (see her post here) and pray Samuel’s simple prayer:
Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening. 1 Samuel 3:9
See you again soon.
