Here is another great entry from our 47 days pre-Easter prayer journal from a key leader in our body, Daniel Beyer.
Psalm 34:8 Daniel Beyer, Leadership Council
O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! - Psalms 34:8 NASB
Try to recall a time when you ate a truly delicious meal. You didn’t enjoy the meal primarily by looking at it, smelling it, or by analyzing its ingredients. You TASTED it. To taste is to experience.
In Psalm 34 David implores his listeners to “taste and see that the LORD is good.” Many of us know about God through our study of the scriptures the same way a chef knows about a meal through studying the recipes used to create the various courses. The meal is mostly pointless unless you eat it – unless you taste it. [Tweet This] In the same way, we must put ourselves in a position to taste and experience God’s goodness. His goodness isn’t necessarily manifested in the circumstances of our lives being just as we would like them, but rather in the deep peace and joy we experience as we trust Him – just as David did – in all seasons and circumstances of life.
Not only should we respond to David’s imperative to “taste and see,” but we should also be willing to be used by God in the lives of others so that they will want to know the source of our peace and joy.
