About My Father

The earliest red letters on record (post incarnation that is) appear in Luke 2.

I am going to save the story surrounding these words for another day. Today I just want to poke around Jesus first declaration of His one and only priority.

And He said to them, "Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father's house?" - Luke 2:49 NASB

Here’s the same verse in the NKJV.

And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" - Luke 2:49 NKJV

The NASB has a footnote on the word house: “Or, affairs; lit in the things of My Father”

You see, Jesus priority was not the temple building, or the study of religion. The number one thing that Jesus cared about was the Father.

On Saturday mornings when my kids were young, I would be heading out to run errands, you know – pick up this, deposit that, return the other – and as I was grabbing my keys, one of my kids would invariable come and ask to come along. Even today this happens with the two that still live at home. If they are home from college, and I am running out to the store for something, they are right there to come along for the ride.

They didn’t care where I was going or what I was doing. They just wanted to be with me.

And so it is with Jesus.

Didn’t you know that I must hang out with My Father?

So here is my prayer this morning:

What are you doing today Lord? Can I come along? Can I help? [Tweet This]
