The Silence of the Lamb

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth;
Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.

Isaiah 53:7 NASB

What restraint it required for the Word made flesh to keep silent.

This One whose words are life itself kept silent.

The mouth that declared all creation into being spoke not a word.

The mighty judge of all the universe stood silent before a sham court with trumped up charges.

This Jesus who will one day by His words accept you into His presence with a “well done” or send you into everlasting darkness with the words “I never knew you” stood and receive His condemnation.

Lies were told about the Truth, but He did not speak.

Fingers pointed – yet not a word.

Whiskers plucked – silence.

Slaps and punches to the face of God incarnate – no syllable in defence.

Spittle dripping from the Only Begotten – stillness.

When He finally spoke:

Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.
