The prophet Joel says this:
Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? - Joel 1:16 ESV
Did you know that the house of the Lord is supposed to be a place of joy and gladness?
That’s not always the way it plays out, is it?
We can be a sour bunch.
Oh—and then there’s this. You are the temple of the living God.
This passage from Joel is talking about a temple that has been abandon by God and left in ruins.
Joy and gladness are the signs of life in a believer.
We have our share of sorrows and disappointment, but like Jesus, we endure the trials and tribulations looking forward to the joy. We know they are brief, fleeting and subject to change. So we press through to the joy of the Lord, which is our strength.
I know—easy to write—harder to live. The waves of trouble crashing down on us will thrash us when we leave the safety of the Rock. Let's cling to the Rock.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. - Romans 14:17 ESV
