The Cause of Christ
by Kari Jobe, Benjamin Hastings, and Bryan Fowler

Verse 1

The only thing I want in life,
is to be known for loving Christ,
to build His church to love His bride
and make His name known far and wide

Chorus

For this cause I live
for this cause I'd die
I surrender all for the Cause of Christ
All I once held dear I will leave behind
For my joy is this, oh the Cause of Christ

Verse 2

He is all my soul will prize,
regardless of the joy or trial
When agonizing questions rise,
In Jesus, all my hope abides

Chorus

For this cause I live
for this cause I'd die
I surrender all for the Cause of Christ
All I once held dear I will leave behind
For my joy is this, oh the Cause of Christ

Bridge

Jesus my Jesus, for Your glory, for Your name
Jesus my Jesus, I will only sing Your praise x3

Chorus

For this cause I live
for this cause I'd die
I surrender all for the Cause of Christ
All I once held dear I will leave behind
For my joy is this, oh the Cause of Christ

For my, Joy is this, oh the Cause of Christ

Outro

It is not fame that I desire,
nor stature in my brother's eye
I pray it's said about my life,
that I live more to build Your name than mine

He is Risen!

"Victor's Crown"
Darlene Zschech

You are always fighting for us
Heaven's angels all around
My delight is found in knowing
That You wear the Victor's crown
You're my help and my defender
You're my Saviour and my friend
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship YouAt the mention of Your greatness
In Your Name I will bow down
In Your presence fear is silent
For You wear the Victor's crown
Let Your glory fill this temple
Let Your power overflow
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship You

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

You are ever interceding
As the lost become the found
You can never be defeated
For You wear the Victor's crown
You are Jesus the Messiah
You're the Hope of all the world
By Your grace I live and breathe
To worship You

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

Every high thing must come down
Every stronghold shall be broken
You wear the Victor's crown
You have overcome
You have overcome
[x4]

At the cross the work was finished
You were buried in the ground
But the grave could not contain You
For You wear the Victor's crown

Hallelujah
You have overcome
You have overcome
Hallelujah
Jesus You have overcome the world

Every high thing must come down
Every stronghold shall be broken
You wear the Victor's crown
You have overcome
You have overcome
[x6]

"O The Blood"

O the blood
Crimson love
Price of life's demand
Shameful sin
Placed on Him
The Hope of every man

O the blood of Jesus washes me
O the blood of Jesus shed for me
What a sacrifice that saved my life
Yes, the blood, it is my victory

Savior Son
Holy One
Slain so I can live
See the Lamb
The great I Am
Who takes away my sin

O the blood of Jesus washes me
O the blood of Jesus shed for me
What a sacrifice that saved my life
Yes, the blood, it is my victory

O the blood of the Lamb
O the blood of the Lamb
O the blood of the Lamb
The precious blood of the Lamb
What a sacrifice
That saved my life
Yes, the blood, it is my victory

O what love
No greater love
Grace, how can it be
That in my sin
Yes, even then
He shed His blood for me

O the blood of Jesus washes me
O the blood of Jesus shed for me
What a sacrifice that saved my life
Yes, the blood, it is my victory
It was a sacrifice that saved my life
Yes, the blood, it is my victory

Thank You for Your blood
Come on thank Him
Ooh thank Him
Thank You for Your blood
Thank You for Your love
Thank You Lord
Thank You
Thank You
Thank You

She totally ace'd it – A+ all the way!

This testing of her faith – this trial in her life did nothing but solidify her love for her Man.

Let me step back for one minute and tell you what I am talking about.

The Maiden, in our Song of Songs has just had her resolve tested. Like Abraham on the mount with Isaac on the altar, like Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, the Shulamite in the Song of Songs has her faith tested.

She has given her life – lock stock and barrel – to the Shepherd King, given Him full ownership of “her garden” and He has accepted her.

But now He has taken a step back, and allowed her to feel His absence. He drew her out and vanished, and she was left looking for Him in the streets, those set to protect her accosted her, the ones in power abused her.

They beat her, wounded her, stripped her and left her.

Did she cry out “Why Me?”
Did she complain?
Did she turn away from Him and go back to her old life?
Did she seek comfort in her old sins?
Did she regret letting Him into her life?

Not for a minute.

I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
If you find my beloved,
As to what you will tell him:
For I am lovesick.

Song of Songs 5:8 NASB

Fortunately her friends did not treat her like the Church has over the years. If we let the common interpretation reign here, this would turn into the book of Job, where her friends would begin to explain to her the vastness of her sin.

But before they get a chance to put her under the sin microscope and tell her about her failure, she just blurts out that which has filled her heart. From her inner most being flows her overwhelming desire to be with the One she loves. She is lovesick.

It brings to mind this song by Kari Jobe:

The More I Seek You

The more I seek You,
the more I find You
The more I find You, the more I love You

I wanna sit at Your feet
drink from the cup in Your hand.
Lay back against You and breath, feel Your heart beat

This love is so deep, it's more than I can stand.
I melt in Your peace,
It's overwhelming

Kari Jobe

I know it’s not a deep theological treatise, but I believe it captures the heart of our maiden as she comes through the testing of her faith more than ever in love with Jesus.

I have heard Graham Cooke quoted as saying that if I am desperate for Jesus, my relationship is dysfunctional, but I am not convinced that is the case.

I believe that there are times our faith is tested. There are times when we will not be able to “feel” the presence of the Lord in our lives through no fault of our own.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. - James 1:2-4 NASB

How will you come through?

Will you say with the maiden – I am lovesick?

Have you ever walked through these times?

Lord, today, we want to sense your presence, we want to sit at your feet, drink from the cup in your hands and lay back and feel your heart beat.

Have you ever been lovesick? (This is where the famed dwarf Grumpy says ‘ahwgh, mush.’)

Sustain me with raisin cakes,
Refresh me with apples,
Because I am lovesick. ~ Song of Songs 2:5

Listen to the maiden’s two part heart cry today; Sustain me, Refresh me!

It sounds to me like the famous Randy Clark prayer “More Lord.” And as Randy Clark (founder of Global Awakening) says in his book of the by the same title; “There is More!”

Remember back in the very beginning of the Song the maiden’s (that’s you) heart cry was draw me and we will run. (Song of Songs 1:4) We have seen her go from a girl with a crush, to a lover beginning to experience intimacy and the first hand attention of the Shepherd King.

Her heart is bursting. She doesn’t want it to stop and cries “Sustain me,” but she doesn’t know how much more she can take “Refresh me.”

That is what lovesick looks like.

The presence of the Lord is tangible and I feel as though I might explode from the intense emotions of love, and joy, the amazing peace I sense. At the same time I desire more.

It helps me to understand that verse in the middle of the Beatitudes:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. ~ Matthew 4:6

Lovesick is the state of being hungry and satisfied at the same time.

Remember the Michael W. Smith worship song “Breathe” from the ‘90’s.

Breathe ~ Michael W. Smith (click the title to listen)

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me

This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very word spoken to me

And I, I'm desperate for you
And I, I'm lost without you

That captures it!

I have heard Graham Cooke (and I really love Graham) say that a relationship where you are desperate for Jesus is dysfunctional, and I get what he is saying, but he misses the point.

Lovesick for Jesus is a glorious dysfunction!

Kari Jobe has captured this passion in her song:

The More I Seek You ~ Kari Jobe (click the title to listen)

The more I seek you,
The more I find you
The more I find you, the more I love you

I wanna sit at your feet
Drink from the cup in your hand.
Lay back against you and breath, feel your heart beat
This love is so deep, it's more than I can stand.
I melt in your peace, it's overwhelming

Do you want more of Him today?

Pray the prayer of the maiden with me –

Sustain me,
Refresh me,
Because I am lovesick.

BenSee you next week!
