Why Blog? I love to see people walking in their gifts, and looking like Jesus. It is the kind of thing that comes little by little as we are transformed into the image of Christ. Each new step I see folks take is so exciting.
Last summer I was mulling. Some of my friends will think this is impossible. I am a high “I” (based on DISC personality profile) so people who know me know I am more of a blurt now and think later kind of guy.The fact is – I do mull! I digress – in any case, I was mulling last summer on what Paul wrote to the church in Rome. In Rom 12:2 he says, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” It occurred to me that everyone I know who loves God, would love to be closer to Him. They want to be transformed! I have asked hundreds of Christians this question or one like it: Is there any area of your life where you want to be more Christ like? Believe it or not, no one has yet told me that they are exactly where they want to be. We all know there is more for us.
I began to realize that I hold to many of my beliefs with a dogmatic clutch, so much so that if you challenge any of my opinions, I would just tune you out. I noticed this was true with many others of my friends and acquaintances. Now I see a problem. I want to change and be more like Christ, but I will not let you talk to me if you do not agree with me. How can I expect transformation if I will not allow my mind to be renewed? It is impossible.
You see, I was of the opinion that my knowledge base was fine. There was nothing wrong with my information; it was just that I was not walking it out. The TRUTH is that there were lies hidden in my truth like tares growing up with the wheat, and they needed to be exposed in order for change to occur. Understand me, these were not huge lies, just subtle little dark spots on otherwise good fruit.
Back to the blog – Jesus says He is the TRUTH! So, I would love to mull over some of His Words with you, and let’s see if we can’t find something that will expose any lies hidden in our truth so that YOU and I can be transformed!
PLEASE interact with me. If what I say makes you mad – let me know. If something herein exposes a lie you are holding onto, or even leads you to truthI missed entirely – and it changes you – share it – maybe it will change me!

Let’s see if we can’t be better expressions of Christ in this world.

Thanks for reading! Come again soon!
Ben

  1. Thank you so much for being here, brother Ben–and also for visiting at Caddo Veil! I especially like your transparency, as I’m Big on that! “Blurt now, think later”–yep, I have to sit on myself some days (and not often enough, sadly). I’d like to know more about the DISC profile–is it covered here on your blog? I’m pressed for time at the moment, so will try to get back soon… God bless you abundantly–love, sis Caddo

    1. The DISc thing is a personality evaluation. I used to POO-POO these kinds of tools, till I found out how well it helps me play with others. It basically helps you see how others might interact with you. Keeps you from wrecking relationships with team members. The elder board of our church used this, and it was fascinating to see how it helped us understand each other better.

there are lots of variations out there. We used one with a spiritual gift assessment attached, but I know that you can actually get them from Dave Ramsey’s organization, and many other places.

It is great connecting with you, and by the way – happy Caddo Veil Aniversary! Good job!

      Ben

  5. Hi Ben
So good to meet you my brother. Thank you for following my blog. I love this post and expect I will be smitten with your entire blog in time. (only post so far) You ask for a great share, how creative this is.
My truth is that as a woman of deep faith who has never worn it on her sleeve because I never knew how to say so with any sense of eloquence. I am now no longer worried with how it sounds. Just that I am speaking His name.
How shallow, how it sounds? Was that really me?

I have owned my faith always, Have lived it proud, but did not know if His message was spoken through measly me. I now know different as well. I am lifted daily by the hope He gives me.

Thank you for this Ben. God’s Blessings and many smiles ~ BB

  6. Thanks much for stopping by and checking out this blog. I think you will find it interesting if not challenging. I can’t wait to see more of what you’ve been up to as well.

The eb and flo of our Christian life is interesting – passion – intimidation – fearlessness – moderation – zeal.

Thanks for your kind words today.

    Ben

  7. O.k. Ben, this is a comment that I would not normally say to others in conversation . I am a Roman Catholic and stand by my religion with vengeance when confronted. I am 46 and have not gone mass on a regularly for sometime . My point is that my faith is the father , son and Holy Spirit . I believe in one god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth sound familiar? I am not a practicing catholic but I know that above all else I choose to see . I know that if I am feel sad , mad , insecure, anything other than god’s love than I am not choosing to see things differently and my life will not change and continue to be a product of my thoughts. This past year I have focused changing my way of thinking

    1. that sounds great – on a path following the Truth, rather than feelings is always the best choice.

thanks much for stopping in. hang around and be blessed!

      Ben

  8. Yes, it’s easier to point out the faults in the way others think than to allow them to challenge our own thinking. Thanks, Ben, for your honesty and the challenge it brings,
    Ian

  9. Hi Ben,

I found you over at Cee’s Share Your World.

I like the way you challenge your reader to live the examined life and see how it squares with the ultimate standard of being a Christian. I’m only coming back now to these things after having been a backslider for a couple of years. God’s grace and Jesus Christ will forever be my favorite words.

I think I’ll be following your blog (no need or pressure to follow mine). Just know that I have been blessed with the few posts I have read so far. I’ll be back for more.

    Warm regards from the Philippines,
    Mary

    1. Hi Mary,
I was just poking around your blog as well. Thanks for stopping in, and you are welcome any time. Glad to hear you are back – most of us go through dark times, and it is so wonderful to have a Father who runs to meet us as we return.
      Nice to meet you,
      Ben

      1. Ah, your reply brought tears to my eyes. Yes I do so feel like the Prodigal Daughter and thank God that grace exists for such as me.

I’ve actually bookmarked your blog so I don’t have to log in to read it.

        Thanks for the welcome.

        Cheers,
        Mary
