Here’s a what if for you…

What if idolatry still offends God?

What if the first commandment still counts?

What if even though you go to church every Sunday, the Father still hates your obsession with… what is it for you… how do you finish this sentence?

Your Sports
Your Leasure
Your Comfort
Your plans
Your car
Your freedom
Your wife
Your husband
Your girlfriend
Your boyfriend
Your kids
Your vacation
You congregation
Your job
You stats
Your time
Your day off
Yourself

How much can you love these things and still be OK with God?

There’s a reason Jesus said:

If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. – Luke 14:26

You see, we serve a God of amazing grace. He loves us while we are in sin, and by the blood of Jesus breaks the power of all idolatry off of us.

But, if you think you’re in Christ and have to check with anything else before you obey God, it’s hard to make your case for Christ.

Coming to Christ requires leaving all other gods, even the lovely and acceptable ones. [Tweet This] Idolatry is not just bowing down to a carved image. God will not share your heart.

Too harsh?

Too many of my friends are dying, and I’m having trouble standing up and saying “This friend served God with all his might.” It breaks my heart, but not as much as it breaks God’s.

Little children, guard yourselves from idols. – 1 John 5:21

cropped-BenHeadshotI love you!

Walk in light,

  1. The Truth is the Truth. Well said Ben. Self evaluation is needed as we continue to run our race. I am thankful we serve such a loving and gracious Father!
