For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. – Psalm 86:5
Many see God in their mind’s eye with a lightning bolt in His hand ready to strike down any who He finds in sin. We joke about it, don’t we? Someone says something proud or boasts, even in jest, against God, and we take a step away from them as if we might get struck when the lightning strikes this offender.
But the scripture (even this Old Testament psalm) describes God differently.
Picture with me a God, not holding a lightning bolt, but holding a bottle of whiteout. Too dated? Ok–with His ring finger on the delete key, ready to blot out the record of our offense.
O Church,
Behold our God,
Slow to anger,
Rich in mercy,
Ready to forgive.
Hallelujah!
See you again soon,
Ben
