Psalm 93 begins with a fashion review.
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. – Psalm 93:1
The Lord is sporting some great looks. Majesty and strength look great on Him, don’t you think?
What about us. Let’s think back to the garden for a minute.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. – Genesis 3:7
Man’s plan, once he found out he needed clothes, was a fig leaf frock. The Lord, once He found them, was not impressed. How would it look, walking through the garden in the cool of the day, Him in His majestic strength and us in our feeble attempt at hiding our shame?
This could not stand.
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. – Genesis 3:21
The Lord killed an animal (more than likely a lamb, a sin-offering) and made a garment for them to wear. A garment that pointed back to an offering for sin.
Now they’re looking good, dressed for success.
Ok – I’m having some fun with this, but think for a minute about our New Covenant clothes.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. – Romans 13:14
We see a detailed wardrobe in Ephesians 6 where Paul itemizes for us the Armor of God, listing off the character of Christ.
The parallel struck me this morning. God once again, or should I say, once and for all, shed the blood of The Lamb for our sin, and took the skin of that Lamb and told us to put it on.
Clothe yourself in the Lamb, whose blood washed away your sins.
And having put on Christ, how are we looking now?
We are clothed in majesty and strength.
WOW! We look just like Him!
Hey – have a great day!
Be careful out there.
I love you,
Ben
Really good! That is, the truth of all this, and also the revelation of this to you, and therefore to us.
Thank you!
Yes Ben, and how wonderful it is that we can put on Jesus every morning as we wake up, through the day, when we go to sleep, and if we are extra blessed — in our dreams. Ben M.
