Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME, AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS, – Hebrews 3:7-8
The writer begins this second great warning of the book with a lenthy quote from the Old Testament. The above scripture is just the beginning of it, and we’ll pick through it over the couse of the next bit of time. For today, I want to focus on “TODAY.”
The quote comes from Psalm 95:7-11. It’s a stout indictment of Joshua’s generation. They, after seeing God deliever their enslaved nation from Egyptian captivity and grant them freedom from their bondage, did not believe He could bring them safely into the land He had promised them.
This unbelief got them stuck–really stuck! Stuck in the wilderness for forty years until every one of that unbelieving generation died, save Caleb and Josahua, never seeing the promise that was a short faith journey ahead of them.
And that faith journey began, as every faith journey does, with TODAY.
Today you must choose to hear His voice.
Today you must soften your heart toward Him.
Today you must trust Him, regardless of the circumstances.
Today you must push past the fear filled thoughts the enemy shoots at your mind from his firey dart cannons.
Today you must resist that sin that so easily besets you, be it worry, self-pity, sloth, or just plain lust.
Today you must come before His throne for help and direction.
TODAY is your day.
TODAY.
Thanks for coming by today.
I hope your as stoked as I am.
Blessings,
Ben
