You shall not pass!

Be anxious for nothing. (Philippians 4:6)

I’m feeling like this is a big deal. It’s time to get militant with anxiety, worry, and fear. As I read this today, I could see in my mind’s eye Gandolf the Grey standing on that bridge in full-on momma bear mode.

“Go back to the shadow! You shall not pass!”

Honestly, this is how we need to treat worry, fear, and anxiety in our lives. When we sense it pursuing us, we MUST refuse it access to our hearts and minds.

Paul tells us:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 NASB

When you feel worry pressing in, speak to it, like Gandolf. Command it to go back to the shadows where it started its day.

Paul lists a few antidotes to this wicked poison.
Prayer laced with thankfulness. When we are thankful for what God has done, as we remember His faithfulness in the past, peace comes and shields our hearts from the onslaught of worry.

Paul continues:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. – Philippians 4:8 NASB

As we set our minds on the true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, excellent and praiseworthy things, worry finds no foothold, and faith rises.

  1. Excellent. This is so very necessary. We, or at least I, MUST keep our or my eyes FIXED on Jesus!

  2. Thank you, Mr. Ben! This is perfect for me. Sometimes I don’t even recognize right away that I am experiencing fear and worry. Being able to identify it and speak to it . . .reject it and send it back where it came from . . .will really help. :). Blessings for your weekend!

    1. Thanks for coming by Debbie! When it sneaks up on us it is our undoing – we need to get ahead of it and cut it off before it sets up a stronghold in our life.
