Ben’s Healing School – Session 1 – Jesus

Hi all,

We started our brand new Healing School on Sunday night. Here’s the video for the first class and some show notes, including scripture reference and links to some of the references mentioned in the meeting.

Enjoy.

Session One Notes

Who is Jesus – A look at Jesus and His purpose

The Word of God trumps our traditions, experiences, and circumstances. Truth trumps facts.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; – John 10:27 NASB

I hear God’s voice.

Core truth:

My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them And health to all their body. – Proverbs 4:20-22 NASB

Be intentional about giving attention to God’s word.

Here’s a shortlist of topics we’ll be covering in the upcoming classes.

Healing in the Ministry of Jesus
Healing in the Ministry of the Apostles
Other Healings in the New Testament
Healing in the Old Testament
Healing, in the atonement?
Healing and the will of God.
Hindrances to healing
Hard questions about healing.

We’re going to look at promises and covenants
We’ll learn about types and shadows

For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.” – Isaiah 28:10 NKJV

The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. – 3 John 1:1-2 NASB

Today’s lesson:

Jesus is the foundation for all healing

Jesus is God – 100% God.

looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, – Titus 2:13 NASB

Jesus is also a man – 100% Man. He was not pretending to be a man.

Jesus set aside his mightly weight of Glory.

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, [and] being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. – Philippians 2:5-8 NASB

Eva Benevento shared in the chat window – in reference to the word “emptied” above: Kenosis – Jesus suspended His divine privilege when He became incarnate.

And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. – Luke 2:52 NASB

Proverbs chapter one personifies wisdom by describing Jesus, John says He is the Word made flesh, and yet He grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.

Three aspects of Jesus’ ministry.

He came as our substitute.

“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21 NASB

The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! – John 1:29 NASB

but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7 NASB

For there is one God, [and] one mediator also between God and men, [the] man Christ Jesus, – 1 Timothy 2:5 NASB

Read Revelation 5 and see the unique role and glory of Jesus, not shared with us.

We would never diminish the unique and glorious Son of God.

But He also came as our example. His ministry was to demonstrate what our ministry would look like.

the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. – 1 John 2:6 NASB

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater [works] than these he will do; because I go to the Father. – John 14:12NASB

Our shared ministry is the ministry of reconciliation as described in Luke 4.

“THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.” – Luke 4:18-19NASB

The third aspect of His ministry was a demonstration of the will of God. He came to show us the will of God.

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, – Hebrews 1:1-3NASB

This verse is the core of my theology, or more specifically my Christology. If I want to see the Father, I must look at Jesus. There is no better way to see the will and heart of the Father than the life of Jesus.

The will of God is key to faith. To walk in faith, we must know the will of God.

In order for us to be healed, we need to know the will of God on the matter.

“Faith begins where the will of God is known,” from Christ the Healer by FF Bosworth.

Faith is involved in 2/3 of the individual healings in Jesus’ ministry.

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us [in] whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. – 1 John 5:14-15NASB

Is it God’s will for us to be healed? Is healing always God’s? Look at the life of Jesus.

The first key to releasing healing in our lives is understanding God’s will to heal you now.

Next week we are going to look at Jesus healing the multitudes.

Lynda suggested: God’s Creative Power for Healing by Charles Capps (see affiliate link below.)

Stay in the Word! If you’re not working a plan at the moment, or if your fighting for healing – get yourself into the gospels. Attend to the Word – Keep it in front of your eyes.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye, my disciples, indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. – John 8:31-32 KJV

I’d love your feedback on the material.
